Quality Assurance for Engine and Emission Components in the Defense Sector

An OEM in the defense sector needed to manage a high volume of inspections for complex, safety-critical components during ongoing mass production. The redi-Group supported the quality assurance team for 12 months with experienced inspectors. This effort contributed to consistent delivery quality and reduced the number of defective components shipped.

OUR SERVICES

  • •End-of-line inspections
  • •Inspection, sorting, and rework (PSN)
  • •Recording of results and defects via a reporting system

THE SCOPE OF THE PROJECT

The 12-month assignment covered components of an OEM's engine and emission systems in the defense sector. The testing was conducted as part of the ongoing production process in accordance with defined testing specifications.

THE CHALLENGE

The high volume of testing placed a strain on internal quality resources. At the same time, it was necessary to continuously meet the quality requirements for complex and safety-critical components.

For the OEM, it was crucial to identify deviations before shipment and address them systematically. The required testing capacity therefore had to be combined with reliable execution and traceable results.

OUR SOLUTION

Experienced inspectors from the redi-Group performed the end-of-line inspections as well as the necessary testing, sorting, and rework. The project’s defined inspection specifications were the guiding criteria.

The results and identified errors were systematically recorded in a reporting system. This provided the OEM not only with operational support but also with a documented basis for tracking identified deviations and managing the further handling of affected components.

The result

Consistent delivery quality: Quality requirements were met even with a high volume of inspections during the mass production process.

Fewer defective shipments: Defective components were identified prior to shipment and addressed as part of the planned PSN activities.

Reduced burden on internal resources: The additional testing capacity reduced the workload on the internal quality team.
